Help by Becoming a Member (Please read the text and then print the simple form below and remit with your check, or just copy the pertinent information on a piece of paper) • Establishing a network of mentors to interact with students nation-wide is one of our stated goals. At least one annual visit to each veterinary college where we present rural practice in a positive light directly to the student body is another very high priority. • We are growing. We have learned that expenses in lecturing are substantial. Travel and lodging, as you know, are expensive, and unlike practitioners who prefer weekend meetings, student meetings are best scheduled at noon or after hours on weekdays, which causes lecturers to be absent from their practices on weekdays, which means a substantial loss of income to practitioner participants. • Our plans to visit every school each year
will involve asking mentors to travel to the various colleges and assist us in
presenting our lives and careers as a very viable career choice. While we,
unfortunately, may not be able at this time to compensate them for time away
from their practices, we feel very strongly that we should be able to cover
their out-of-pocket travel and lodging expenses. • Not everyone is able to devote time to travel
and lecturing, and many are reluctant to offer the commitment that mentorship
might require. Therefore, we are offering the opportunity to those who feel
that there is indeed a crisis in manning rural practices to help us financially
by a membership commitment of $100.00 per individual or $150.00 per group
practice. Please remit your annual membership dues of
$100.00 per individual or $150.00 per practice, regardless of the number of
veterinarians in that practice. In addition to helping change perceptions of
rural practice, you will be on our member/mentor list as a concerned
veterinarian who is proactive and cares about the future of veterinary
medicine. Students will seek your advice and you will get inquiries regarding
summer jobs, externships, and associate positions. You will have access to the
“Jobs” link to post positions available in your practice at no charge. You will
be able to send and receive e-mail with other ARV mentors on the Rural Vets
List Serve. Additionally, you will be
kept up to date with electronic newsletters and e mails.
